acne and sensitive skin with redness--skin care products suggestions?
(0) Hearts

I am 18 years old and have combination skin.  Recently, within the past year, my acne has increased and I now have small, rash-like blemishes/red spots across my face.  I have fairly sensitive skin and also suffer from redness.  Could anyone suggest any cleansing and moisturizing products gentle enough for my skin yet effective enough to clear it up?

Thanks in advance!

For the issues mentioned:

-Combination skin

-Blemishes (small, red spots)

Try looking into these brands/products:

Murad's Soothing Gel Cleanser:

Soothing Gel Cleanser

This sulfate free wash won't strip skin of essential oils it does need, but the gel based formula will break down excessive oils easier and faster than cream based washes. It's packed with soothing ingredients and antioxidants to balance out redness without irritating and designed for sensitive skin and rosacea prone skin. This will serve more to easing redness and sensitivies in skin as opposed to focusing solely on the blemishes.

Boscia's Black Cleanser:

Detoxifying Black Cleanser

This is another gel based cleanser from a line that is preservative free and botanical based with soothing ingredients like jojoba leaf extract and willow herb, a natural form of salicylic acid, paired with charcoal to absorb and control excess oil while drawing out impurities in pores. This will help with the issues of oil/blemishes.

Boscia's Clear Complexion Cleanser:

Clear Complexion Cleanser

Designed to cater to clarifying skin from breakouts/blemishes, includes ingredients like licorice to calm inflammation and redness, has botanical ingredients to help with oil control/regulation. Like the one above, this is mainly geared toward blemishes first, then oil control.

Korres Milk Proteins Foaming Cleanser:

Milk Proteins Foaming Cream Cleanser

This will help more with calming and soothing your skin from redness of the rosacea and blemishes rather than treat/target blemishes, but it's a gentle formula if you choose to focus more on the redness for your wash.

Pick the wash that focuses on what you want it to. If you feel that oil is the main issue, use the Black cleanser, if it's redness try the Murad or Korres, and if it's break outs you're wanting to get a start on, the Clear Complexion.

From there, look into treatment based products:

Murad Redness Therapy Treatment Gel:

Redness Therapy Recovery Treatment Gel

This can be applied all over or to areas of extreme redness, sensitivity, or rosacea, even on the red areas of blemishes. The ingredients will help reduce and calm redness and inflammation whether the cause is from break outs of the rosacea. It's also packed with anti-oxidants to boost your skin's defenses and not be as sensitized by environmental/external elements.

Murad Exfoliating Acne Treatment Gel:

Exfoliating Acne Treatment Gel

This gel treatment is designed specifically for blemish prone/affected areas, especially helping to target clogged pores, or blemishes that are red/raised, and seemingly trapped under the surface. It relies on salicylic acid, which is a beta hydroxy acid that not just rids surface oils and those clogging pores, but also removes bacteria for a deeper clean and to ward of future break outs. The gel uses a hydroxgen peroxide delivery system in a manner to introduce the active and treatment ingredients better and deeper into skin. Try using this for starters at night time as it does help to "exfoliate", if you use it in the day, be sure to follow up with a lotion with SPF.

To top your skin off in the morning, try a mattifying moisturizer which will absorb and control oil throughout the day so you're not combating as much or having it affect your make up wear.

Murad's Oil Control Mattifier SPF 15:

Oil-Control Mattifier SPF 15

This lotion feels thick at first, like glue, but be patient and get used to the formula as it's very effective in mattifying skin and taking down shine.

Peter Thomas Roth Clini Matte SPF 20:

Clini-Matte All Day Oil-Control SPF 20

Not only does this lotion have a higher dose of SPF, but it's also lighter in texture and also helps control shine/oil.

Murad Redness Therapy Correcting Moisturizer SPF 15:

Redness Therapy Correcting Moisturizer SPF 15

This moisturizer will help ease redness in the skin if you don't want to focus on mattifying, it's packed with fruit extracts and botanicals to calm inflammation in skin and is very light weight.

For night, choose a simple moisturizer like one of the ones from below:

Murad's Skin Perfecting Lotion for Blemish/Oily Skin:

Skin Perfecting Lotion - Blemish Prone/Oily Skin

This lotion hydrates, minimize problem areas, and soothes redness with botanical extracts while helping balance out the skin.

Boscia Revitalizing Black Hydration Gel:

Revitalizing Black Hydration Gel

The gel base will absorb into skin easily, not making your face feel heavy or greasy, the charcoal and botanical extracts control oil while improving the look of skin, and it's packed with vitamin C and fruit enzymes to even tone and texture.
