FEATURED POST

It's midnight in New York and you know what that means... it's October!! I don't care if I'm in California, I'm still making this post hahaha.    I started my haul at CVS because my sister had $10 rewards for beauty and I used that towards lipsticks for my kit.    I got Wet n Wild lipsticks in Sugar Plum Fairy, Wine Room, and Mauve Outta Here. I also got a Milani lipstick in High Voltage. I paid $2 for 4 lipsticks!   I went to Ulta to pick up NYX Dark Circle Corrector and the Essence Lipstick (4th one above) in Wear Berries   THEN, I went to Sephora to pick up a free deluxe sample of Bare Minerals lipstick in Speak Your Mind and my MUFE Birthday gift!     PS my birthday is October 18 hehe

Usually pretty easy to do because the newest items have 20 loves or less and no reviews.  In general I will check in the morning and late afternoon and post what I find.   Acqua di Parma, Ardency Inn, Antasasia, Atelier Cologne, BareMinerals, Bite Beauty, Chloe, Elizabeth and James, Josie Maran, Jurlique, L'Occitane, Lavanilla, Marc Jacobs Makeup, Marc Jacobs Perfume, Marula, NEST, Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics, Sephora Collection, Sephora Favorites, Smashbox, Tarte, Tata Harper, Thierry Mugler, Tocca, TokyoMilk Dark, Too Faced, Urban Decay, Victor & Rolf

I just stumbled on the most heartbreaking article entitled "An Ugly Woman's Honest and Painful Response to Being Mistreated Goes Viral". The photo that accompanied it spoke very strongly to me.     The article links to the original post by a Reddit user describing what should have been a great night out with friends that I've included in the spoiler. These are not my words, but I totally understand how this woman feels. All of us at one time or another have had these feelings or encounters like this. As a relative newcomer to this beauty board I've experienced great interactions with other BT community members and seen mostly positive interactions. I'm posting this with the hope that in reading this individuals will be encouraged to pay it forward or step out of their comfort zone in regards to their own beauty or perception of beauty. Stop someone on the street and say something nice, volunteer at a women's shelter or donate to a cause that helps/empowers women. Share your own stories within this thread and find support. This article really moved me and I just felt compelled to share it.   Spoiler (Highlight to read) "Warning: wall of text ahead I am an ugly woman. Objectively, I really am. Please don't argue with me on this one, Reddit. I am not overweight, actually in better shape than most women my age, I dress well, I am great with makeup. But last weekend the world just had to remind me that despite all this, people will go out of their way to kick me. I don't often go clubbing, but Saturday night was a special occasion. A friend was celebrating her 21st, and it was also the weekend after a long week of brutal exams. It felt like a good time to blow off some steam. Because I don't often go clubbing, I really tried this night to look nice. There was an outfit that I had bought a long time ago, but that I'd never worn because it was a little sexier than what I usually wear. A close friend had picked it out for me when we were shopping, and, in that "you go girl" kind of way had urged me to buy it. I did my makeup painstakingly, straightened my hair which always takes forever because my hair is huge, put on that too-sexy-for-me outfit. And when I looked in the mirror I was even surprised at myself. "Wow, is that me? I actually look...nice!" I showed my friends. They all said I looked great. And they MEANT it too. Like, genuine happy encouragement. I could tell they were sincere and it made me feel so good, like for once I wasn't just masquerading as an attractive girl with fancy makeup and clothes, but that I WAS the attractive girl. I hadn't felt so attractive in ages, Reddit. When we got to the club, we got a nasty surprise. We had been told that tonight there was no cover charge for girls, and so none of us had brought much cash on our person. Well, our info was wrong. They did indeed ask for a cover. Only one of us 6 girls had cash, and she only had enough to cover two people. When we got to the door and found this out, a group of guys behind us volunteered to help us out. They each forked over a couple of bucks to cover my friends, but not one of them offered to cover me. One by one my friends were let in and they waited on the other side of the door until everyone got through. The guys were doing everything to avoid eye contact with me. They were looking at the ground, the street, pretending to look through their wallets for cash to cover one more girl. It was so painfully obvious that I felt like just going home. Luckily, my friend with the extra cash covered me so I was allowed in. Well, once we were inside I thought I could just forget about that incident. I had dressed up and come out, to have a good time and relax. So for a while I danced with my friends. It wasn't long before other guys started dancing with us. We kind of paired off slowly, there was a guy whose two buddies had started dancing with other girls and he was left alone. At that point I too had lost track of my friends and was alone. He started dancing with me, but the whole time he seemed really distracted. Not once did he really look at my face, he was kinda looking around the club the whole time, like he was browsing the scene for another, more attractive girl he could bounce to. In less than 10 minutes, he had seen one. He peaced out without a word, and I saw him dancing a few minutes later with a very attractive brunette. The way he acted with her was just SO different than when he had danced with me. He was face to face with her, smiling, dancing enthusiastically. That made my stomach drop. I went to the bar, found one of my friends who was sitting there with a guy. She introduced us, he bought everyone drinks. After a while I felt like a bit of a third wheel so I went back to the dance floor. Eventually my group of girls regathered together. Everyone had a guy, except for one of them who had a bf at home. So I danced with her, with our friends and their guys near us. There was a photographer going around the club, taking pictures of the people there. I assume it was for some promo for their website or something. He got to our group, and literally circled us several times, taking several pics from different angles. I was kind of psyched about this, so I did my best to look like I was having a good time, made sure he could snap me at my best. But after a while I realized he wasn't circling us to get our best angles. He was trying to get a frame without ME. If I moved closer to the center of the group, for instance, he would tilt his camera a little the other way. I couldn't believe it until finally, he actually came up to me and asked me to get out of the shot. I felt so ugly right then. For all the effort I had put into looking and feeling good that night, it seemed like it just didn't matter. So the night ends with me leaving the club. My friend with the bf at home who was dancing with me left with me so I wouldn't be alone. The rest of my girl friends didn't notice what had happened with the photographer, so when they asked me where I was going I just told them I was tired and wanted to go home. And since I wasn't leaving alone, they let me. So yeah, that's my story from the weekend. Please be kinder to ugly people, Reddit. Maybe one of the people I met that night will read this post and recognize themselves. I hope so, if only so they can know how behavior they're barely conscious of can affect someone else. EDIT: I have always been a lurker on Reddit so I'm not sure if I can find out who gave me gold. But thank you, stranger! I will enjoy this gold while it lasts. So I'm about $400 away from re-qualifying for Rouge. I commented earlier this year that my goal was actually not to re-qualify. I'm not sure I will make it, since the promos (they are the ones that get me- always!) are so good these days. Also, of course, the holidays are coming up along with the VIB/Rouge Sale(s). As I am ready to part ways with Rouge, here is the bittersweet rundown:   Loves: I loved the free shipping you offered! I loved the awesome Rouge promos I got and were offered (even the ones that I didn't choose to get)- I loved them all I love access to the Rouge board and getting to see what my fellow Roug-ies have to say!   Not so great: I didn't really get to partake in any events but in the past, VIB events seemed to last the whole day. So you could go in whenever and all SAs would be so great and giving (of samples) during those events. I could have purchased the shipping for a nominal fee of 20-25 dollars and it would have been just as nice. Actually, I don't remember placing any orders less than $35 anyways so it wouldn't have been that bad to meet the $50 minimum offered to everyone. I spend so much money on makeup and have so many dupes to last a few lifetimes over! (Although sometimes I would rather quickly swipe Tarte over my eyelids than UD- lol) Free Rouge Gift- I know Rouges have harped on this quite a bit throughout the year and I see action taken to make us happy, but that elusive gift just never came.   I guess as a consumer I've started looking for the best deals and know that the biggest voice I have is with my wallet. Therefore, it is with both happiness and sadness that I let this status go. Like I said, I'm not sure where I'll end up at the end of the year, but I am OK with it either way.

It hit me a few days ago that Black Friday 2014 would be here soon!!! I happen to just love love love Black Friday shopping.   I am not a morning person, a total night owl actually, so I've enjoyed that the last couple of years there have been more stores opening late on Thursday. (I don't support folks having to work on Thanksgiving just so I can shop but I won't wake up at 3 am to be at a store for a 4 am opening - I'd rather just stay up and hit a midnight opening - just a personal preference).   Last year Sephora branded their Black Friday deals as "Dealtopia". As in years past, they had some amazing $10 deals. Some were online only and some were available both in store and on-line. On-line, we were limited to two items of each deal, but many of us made multiple orders. In-store, some locations held to the two item limit of each deal, and some didn't and they let you buy more. What is always the great mystery for on-line shopping is the exact time that the deals will go live. I want to say that it was midnight EST time. Last year, the online shopping was a bit of a nightmare. Anyone remember entering the "queue" where you were advised not to hit the back-button, or refresh, else you'd lose your place in line? With some patience, many of us were able to find our desired deals.   My local store opened at midnight and when I got there at about 11:45, I was about the 15th person in line. There was only one "aggressive" shopper, who was behind me, but went kinda crazy when the doors opened. She knew what she wanted and by gosh, she wasn't afraid to nudge you out of the way to get there! Other than that, it was crazy busy but nothing horrible. They had many of the deals sitting on the main front display, but they also had some employees who had rolling carts with some of the items. Finding that "one" item you just had to have was tricky if it wasn't on the main display.   To get an idea of what the deals were in 2013, I recommend googling "Musings of a Muse Black Friday 2013" to see the great details she posted including great pictures. Captured below is the list of deals from 2013, as found on The Musings of a Muse site.   In addition, I just took a photo of the ones I bought last year that I still haven't used or given away. I think my favorite $10 item was the Josie Maran set, which included her Bare Naked Nail Wipes (20 count) and a 1 oz. Whipped Argan Oil Hand Cream in Vanilla Apricot. I think the "hot" item was the Philosophy Purity wash. What was your favorite?   Note that Sephora did most of their Black Friday advertising using Pinterest and Facebook. I do not remember how many days before Black Friday they posted what the deals would be. Do any of you remember?   All I know is that I am really excited for 2014!!! Hi guys, me again!!! As I said in another post, my first bridal trial didn't go well, so I booked another one, with a different MUA. I loved the final look, but I guess in the second trial I would ask to not underline the entire eye, I think that maybe half of it. I kind of think is a little too much the whole undereye, it makes me look a little bit tired, doesn't it? What do you think? And I would like a little more coverage in the skin, if possible.   Here are the photos, let me know what you think, any advice is welcome!  Thank you so much!!

I LOVE beauty products and sadly I also LOVE shopping which leads to countless makeup purchases on a weekly basis. I have a lot of makeup already and I certainly do not need more. I'm sure I am not the only one with this problem but if anyone can help me, I would appreciate.    Do you have any tips on reducing your impulse purchases ? or just stop buying so much makeup all the time? Are you a recovering beauty addict ? I need advice, especially before the VIB sale in November !!!

Just yesterday, I marveled at how well I'd been doing NOT buying things I don't need... Than Chanel came out with the LE Holiday Quad. I resisted for about 16 hours, and today, a friend told me she got it this weekend, and that was all it took; It's on it's way to me. SMH. Anything lately enable you this easily?    (isn't it pretty?!?!)

Hair
Does anyone have any recommendations for products - particularly heat protectors or styling products - to use prior to curling dry hair?    In order for my fine, straight hair to hold any curl, it has to be at least 2-3 days old, so I'm rarely putting products in wet or damp hair and am looking for something that won't weigh my hair down or leave it feeling greasy prior to curling. Are any products geared specifically towards applying to dry hair?    I tried searching and all I came up with were threads from people who had dry (as in not oily) hair.  Spoiler (Highlight to read)

I am crazy about advent calendars! (I have several wooden ones that I fill with my parents' and brother's favorite candies each December.)    So last holiday season, when I learned that there were Beauty calendars, filled with skincare, makeup, body, and fragrance products, I flipped! Last year, there was a memorable Benefit advent calendar. (Let's not even talk about this year's over-priced version.)    This year, there are even more advent calendars being offered, but most of them are exclusive to the U.K. I have seen U.K. bloggers post about Jo Malone, Body Shop, L'Occitane and Yankee Candle advent calendars--just to name a few. (You can google "best beauty advent calendars" to see all the awesome goodness.)   I just bought the QVC version!    I hope that the few advent calendars offered in the U.S. are really popular and are snapped up this year, so that retailers will understand the demand. Then hopefully, we will get more such beauty calendars available for U.S. customers in upcoming years.    Who else is crazy about these?       Jo Malone Advent (2014) L'Occitane Advent (2014) Body Shop Advent (2014) QVC Advent (2014)   Selfridges (UK department store) Advent (2014)

I've been trying to get the perfect winged eyeliner but I can rarely get a perfect line and when I do it's never the same as the other eye. Is there some sort of tool that can help me with the line? I know shadow shields help along with eyeshadow but I have no idea where to buy those. I also heard that Sephora had some sort of eyeliner applicator thing. I don't know, all I'm really seeking is some sort of tool not really a technique. Any ideas?

The plus side is I don't look 36 but the downside is as a professional I need products but I've tried just about every primer and oil mattifier out there.  I also have done all the suggested changes to my skin care routine.    I'm an accountant and HR representative always on the go so I can't stop to keep reapplying.  Blotting just takes the makeup off and eventually I have uneven skin with makeup in some areas and other areas where it looks smudged.   I have spent about $1500 overall in products that are supposed to clear up oil and keep my skin matted but that has yet to happen.   PLEASE HELP!

So normally getting a palette with a misspelled label isn't a huge deal. I mean, it does tweak my Virgo need for order, and it does irk when it's from a high-end brand.   This misprint of "Deep Night", though, skates a little too close to the racial slur line for comfort. Obviously it's not intentional, but I wonder how many of these slipped through quality control.     I'm debating whether to exchange it, or just try adding the letters in myself with liquid paper or something.

I was very lucky and blessed to win the Clarisonic giveaway last week and I received the device kit yesterday in the morning!! Let me first say, Thank you Sephora and Clarisonic for this awesome giveaway!   I didn't expect Sephora would send me the kit this fast though.  (BTW, am I the first winner who got this??)  I couldn't move any faster to open the box. The device kit was much bigger than I thought it would be, plus a congratulation memo from Sephora .   I roughly went through the manual first and learned that I have to charge the device for 24 hours prior to the first use. So I charged it and tried it today. I think I've never been excited to go home and wash my face . Who knew I would be this excited to take off my make up, lol.  As soon as I came home, I ran straight to my bathroom and used the device. And you know what? It's AMAZING!   I've been using Neutrogena Microdermabraison system over a year. And it's the only cleansing device I've ever tried. I heard a lot of good things about Clarisonic, but I never reached out for one because of its price tag. I'm more of a makeup girl and I don't spend my fortune for skincare. I was quite happy with my Neutrogena system and would've been forever happy with it only if I didn't know how good Clarisonic is!!   As I'm entering my late 20's, I've noticed that my pores are getting bigger and I spotted more blackheads on my nose. These were the reasons I bought the Neutrogena system at the first place. But holly molly! Clarisonic is so much softer and moisturizing(?) and also doesn't leave me the tingly or itchy feelings and redness on my face that Neutrogena always gave me.   I think it's the brush that makes the biggest difference. The Clarisonic brush is so soft compared to the Neutrogena pad (not brush). The pad has a bit of sand feeling on the surface (Feels like a scrub that has really big particles in it). And I don't get how it could even moisturize my face. I guess moisturizing is not really a proper term here, but I actually feel like my face is very moistened after using it without any noticeable redness on my cheeks and forehead. Every time I used Neutrogena, my face turned quite red for a few hours, but Clarisonic didn't make my cheeks that red at all! My face is very smooth and feels like baby skin now. I can't stop rubbing my cheeks (perv alert!).    I also have to mention how nice the device stand is. The stand makes easy to place the device. And the charger is magnetic. These are just little something, but very nice little something . Overall I think this device is so worth the money and deserves a good review.   I was actually ready to criticize this product before using it. I didn't want to be all so nice because I got it free. Yet I'm only telling you guys how good it is because I can't literally think of any con right now. (I used it only for once. I'm not sure if I'll find some cons in the future.)   If I knew Clarisonic is this great, I would've bought one with my own money a long time ago. I'm wondering how this Smart profile is different from Mia 1 and 2 though. Anyway I'm seriously so thankful for this giveaway to let me have this wonderful device in my life! What a beautiful night for me!!   *I didn't mean to write this long.. but I had so much to tell you guys!! lol

Hello all,   I just saw that MJ highliner set is out of stock. Do you think it will be restocked for the VIB sale? If you bought it, how do you like it? Do you think it is worth it?    I am not a very eyeliner-y person but I am really into the brand. I also have blue-green eyes. Do you think it would compliment my eye colors?    Ahh that was some questioning Thanks all!

Beauties, how Audacious have you gotten?    I need to get some of these and am going to swatch tomorrow.   If you have Audacious lippies, show us what colors you've picked up, and share what other colors you're still lusting after.   Just from looking at swatch sheets last month, (on Temptalia I think) I saw about 15 I wanted   How about you?   Also, hat tip to jemly for inspiring this thread

Nails
I'm loving this nail polish from Nails Inc. I used the superfood base coat, Nailkale in Victoria and finished it off with the 45 second top coat.  The color is so rich and easy to apply.
