Starletta8's Summer of No Buy Support Thread
So, it's time to go on an extended no buy. I have more than I could ever enjoy for quite awhile.  However, if you have gotten to know me a bit- it's going to be easier said than done!   So, this thread is hopefully going to be a support group for me- and anyone else who wants to join me in a summer of no buy.   The tricky thing is that I've got about 40% of my toner left and maybe 20% of my daytime moisturizer- and I see pan on my HG concealer.  I have to buy the concealer since it's a staple product (and I have used up all of the other concealers that match my skin). I'd like to use up some skincare before repurchasing my daytime moisturizer- but if my skin reacts, I'll revisit the issue.   When will the no buy end?  I'm not sure, but fall collections will be on counters, if not on the leaves!

Shiseido Set
I just saw a post from Starletta8 saying she really likes the Shiseido items she has tried. I tested some today at the Sephora event but really havent used any of their products. I have combination skin (oily forehead & nose, normal cheeks & dry around my mouth).  The SA recommended the balancing set. What do you think?     Oh and I loved the Urban Environment Tinted UV Protector Broad Spectrum (shade 1).  Just disappeared on my skin and then felt smooth.

Not liking the website change
I've noticed that my shopping list has been replaced with at little heart. I guess that my shopping list is "saved," but if I can't remember off the top of my head everything that was on my list (and it was a very long list), I'd have to wander aimlessly through the site looking for red hearts. After playing around with the new set up, I've figured out that if I click to print for the "loves" list, I can then see my shopping list. This is very annoying. Do I seriously have to go about as if I was going to print the list to even see it? I feel that the old shopping list was so much better because you had everything directly in one place. How in the world is this new "loves" list more convenient? Why can't my old shopping list show up under the new "loves" list?    Also, my purchase history is gone for the items I bought in store and for items that I bought online prior to 2011. I am definitely not liking this update and it really needs to be improved. Is there any plans for improvements? What do other members think about this?

Clinique's 3-Step System: Good, Bad, or Ugly?
Through the years, I've gone on & off Clinique's 3-Step skin care.  While I love the price point, I wonder if it truly is beneficial.  I've heard and experienced so much as far as using alcohol-free toners, yet almost all of Clinique's have alcohol in them.  I've heard that oily skinned folks need to stay away from foaming cleansers because they strip the skin and cause the perfect setting for bacteria to grow.  And, of course, oily people are always trying to use only oil-free products.   Tell me, if you have gone back on their 3-Step, if you're currently using it for more than 6 months, or if you left it altogether.  And why, please.   BIG appreciation!

What is a good primer & light to medium coverage foundation for combination skin?
I'm new at face makeup so I went to my local Sephora and asked for a recommendation for a good primer and foundation for combination skin. They recommended me to Benefit's The Porefessional and the Smashbox Healthy FX foundation w/ SPF 15. However, when I tried the products at home I knew that they were definitely not for me. The Porefessional made areas of my face dry and flaky! The Smashbox foundation was way too orange for me and that is strange because I have yellow undertones. It also does not set even when I apply setting powder. I heard the Victoria Secret's VS Pro Airbush FX Perfecting Primer w/ SPF 20 is great and is a good dupe for the famous Smashbox primers. Any opinions? My forehead tends to get oily over a couple of hours because I have bangs. My cheeks tend to be drier. Is there a good primer and foundation for me? I prefer buildable coverage more on the medium side.

Makeup lovers! What sales are going on?
Hello everyone (: I was looking for a thread on here about sales going on, not only on Sephora but on other websites or stores. I personally like to look for good deals on makeup since I am constantly trying to build up my collection. I thought I would make a thread where we could all post what sales we know or have heard about in stores or online, include any great codes for deals or even products with great prices.  Of course since I am starting it, I thought I would post a couple that I have been looking into.    -Hautelook This is a flash deal website that has awesome deals that are constantly changing, hence the flash deals Today until friday, they have some awesome deals on Tarte products, so check it out if interested! -tarte Right now, tarte is having a discovery sale with items like the Maracuja miracle foundation for $21.00 instead of $42. There are also two eyeshadow palettes on there for $26 each. -urbandecay I love their shadows! They have three nice color selection palettes to choose from online ranging from $16-$19.     One last item that is not on sale but I consider a great deal is the lorac glogetter palette! It is exclusively sold at ulta for $20! I am definitely getting that soon.

ls What is the best foundation for a teenage girl?
I've been using BareMinerals since I was about thirteen or fourteen years old. I'm now seventeen. I loooove how lightweight BareMinerals is, but I don't like how shiny my face is at the end of the day. I've tried Matte, but I hate the texture, it's very clay-ish and drying. Not only that, but I am searching for something with better coverage, that doesn't look gross after six hours. I want something that doesn't feel heavy on my skin, is safe and won't make me break out. BUT I want a more flawless, beautiful look. What foundations would you reccomend?

11 (Not "10") Things We All Need to Know...
There are 2 people that I've come to really respect their knowledge of skin care and makeup: Lisa Eldridge and Caroline Hirons.  Lisa is exceptional at knowing how to make makeup wear and look better, while Caroline is equally brilliant at understanding the skin and what ingredients it does and does not need--and she is blunt, straight-forward, and speaks from knowledge, not theory.   To follow are Caroline's "Things I Say Over and Over Again".  I know a lot of my questions have been answered by her blog--especially her "Cheat Sheets", so I'd thought I'd share with y'all in case it helps even just 1 person.  Enjoy!   1.  You are obsessed with your pores. They do not open and close like doors. You say they are HUGE - then send me a picture and I can SEE NOTHING.  We CANNOT see your pores. The only person that can see your pores close-up is your opthamologist - or your boyfriend. Your opthamologist is looking at your eyes. Not your pores. And if your boyfriend is thisclosetoyou and notices your pores? He's gay. Or not attracted to you. Or at best, rude. Rethink the entire relationship. 2.  You overuse the Clarisonic. A lot of you. A LOT of you. You can use it - you're just not meant to use it every time you brush your frigging teeth.  Step away from the trendy facial tool and wash your bloody face properly. 3.  Nothing good ever came from scrubbing your face with a peach kernel.  There's a reason they are 99p. Step away. 4.  In general, foaming is what you want Fairy Liquid to do. Not your cleanser. And to the brands: I am unapologetic. 5.  Freckles are cute. At any age. You will do damage to your skin trying to get rid of them. Leave them alone. Embrace them. 6.  Stress is the key to most flare-ups, whether they are acne, rosacea or eczema. Practise relaxation. And not in some hippy-dippy way. Seriously. See the bigger picture. Chill. 7.  Inflammation is the root of all evil. Eat less sugar, take more fish oil supplements. A lot of fish supplements. 8.  Natural doesn't mean you won't react. Essential oils are one of the biggest triggers for skin. 9.  'Dupes' belong in makeup and nail varnish. There is no 'dupe' for a high quality, years-of-research-behind-it skincare product. 10.  Spend your money on supplements, skincare, foundation and concealer and scrimp on the rest. You will look fabulous.     11.  If you would spend more on shoes, handbags, lipstick, jeans or fashion in general than you would on high quality skincare - you will be a sixty year old woman (and man) with a vintage wardrobe and a face like an alligator.

5 tips that make my beauty life easier
I wish so badly I'd known these things would make my life easier!  If this helps even just 1 person, that's what I want.  (If my post helps you in any way, please let me know!)   1. Change your mascara with the change of seasons.  We all know we should change it out every 3 months, but who can remember when that was?!  So, I change mine next month as Summer officially arrives.  Then, another new tube in September when Fall arrives.  That way, there's no doubt just how old that tube really is!   2. Quit picking.  (This is where I'm being brutally transparent.)  For years, it has hurt my head to see a clogged pore or a slight white center to an upcoming blemish.  My solution was to squeeze, poke, prod...whatever I could to get it gone.  What I've found is that LEAVING IT ALONE is actually the fastest cure for blemishes and for the overall prevention of them.  I spent so much time in the mornings concealing, blending, concealing, blending, applying powder.  My battle with cystic acne, I believe, is probably a lot of my fault because I was causing absolute chaos under my skin with all that nonsense.  I've not touched my skin for almost 2 months now.  How many blemishes do I have?  Zero.  How much redness do I have?  Very little.  When is the last time I used concealer?  1 month ago.  Case made.   3. Don't reinvent the wheel.  Instead of sticking with the formula of foundation that truly did work for me, I've sampled about all of them.  YouTuber or blog poster raves about a foundation...I'm on it.  I just tossed a BB cream and a CC cream sampler because I felt so compelled to see if this was the stuff that was going to work magic for me, and...wait for it...it didn't.  Back to my foundation (Lancome's Dual Finish) formula and shade that get it right every time!  I've learned that liquid formulas just don't work well for me, so why waste time, energy, and good skin (experienced a few hiccups of blemishes or just "yuck" skin because of sampler situations) to find that miracle product?!   4. Keep it simple.  Instead of having tons of color products rolling around and coming loose from their pans, I have 1 single eye palette (Benefit's World Famous Neutrals in "Everyday") and 3 cheek colors (Tarte's Dollface, Exposed and then Benefit's Dandelion).  All I do now is make either my eyes or lips the focal point of my look and use one of those cheek colors to brighten my face.  And guess what?  It's simple.  I'm actually using up product before it expires or gets goopy or whatever.   5. Stick to a memorable routine.  I exfoliate twice weekly (Murad's Pomegranate Mask), and I do it every Sunday and Wednesday.  While it sets, I wash my BeautyBlender (I have 2, so this gives me a clean one twice a week).  Once a month, I also wash my face & eye brushes while also doing my BeautyBlender.  If I didn't stick to just those two days for treatments, I'd forget when, then it'd be a week, then a month before I'd realized how time had slipped by without keeping a routine.  It truly does make a difference in my skin!   Hope I helped!

ABC Game
I'm pretty sure this has been done in beauty talk before but I want to start one if not. just to be sure... name of the game:   A-Z name of a product not the palette not the brand but the name of the color, or shade you can name more than one for each letter but you have to complete the whole list. it has to either be something you own or are interested in purchasing can be from a palette nail polish any beauty product even a fragrance name ready set go & have fun with it. (my family used to play this game in the most boring way when i was little on our trips to get to the local zoo from our house or while driving out of state with license plates bill boards street signs etc. but I think this is way more fun!)   Note: Put the name of the color first, then brand then status of wether you own it or want it but only put down one or the other & if you own it you  have to like it otherwise there is no point in introducting the title to others. because this gets people not to want to look into getting said products. it can be department store, drug store, sephora, ulta or otherwise just make sure you like it. & Enjoy!)   I will post mine upon completion   P.S. don't post too may pics. otherwise it will take forever for people to load the page LOL)

Lemon Lime Nails
After applying my acrylics, I decided it was time for some nail art!  I was going to do Margarita nails, but my lime fimo pieces would blend too well in with the polish.  So I went with a Lemon Lime theme.     Each time I do acrylics, I learn at least one new thing.  This time, I really noticed how runny the ASP Aspire products are.  I read that another person on Instagram was having a similar issue.  No matter how lightly I dipped my brush into the liquid, the final product, after picking up my first bead, would be runny on my nail.  I'm  not sure if that is part of the ASP formula or what.  Also, the fimo pieces would work a lot better if encased in acrylic by using color acrylic powder and clear, but I'm not up to that step yet lol.     After the acrylic process, I used the following products: Beauty Secrets Base Coat China Glaze Entourage (yay for eBay!) StripeRite in Silver Glitter (this was going to be my margarita salt lol) Orly Quick Drying Top Coat Nail Glue and Lemon Fimo Pieces Cina Top Coat and Bonder   Now, let's see how long the lemon pieces last lol.

Your favorite blotting papers?
Just wondering what everyone's favorite blotting sheets are, and why.   Oily skin is very new to me so I never had any use for blotting sheets until just a few months ago.  So far I've tried Palladio Rice Paper and e.l.f. blotting sheets.  I love the Palladio because each sheet is pretty sturdy, large, and has a bit of powder.  The e.l.f. is very flimsy in comparison and probably doesn't soak up as much oil.   Would love to hear which blotting papers others use and what you like about them!
